Summary

'Amsterdam' steel barque 1139 tons.[steel 3 mast barque, 1139g, 1100 tons, 210.9 x 34.1 x 19.7. Built 1893 (2) Huygens & van Gelder, Amsterdam, Owner:WA Huijgens, reg. Bussum. Renamed in 1915 'Sirdal' by WO Stray of Norway. Sold to be broken up in 1923, but reprieved and became 'Alice Micheline' then in 1924 became 'Piero' of Genoa, and then converted into a pontoon. She was later converted to a full powered motor vessel under the name 'Piero'. See ref. 8.] [originally 'Amsterdam' of 1893 q.v. Sold to breakers in France in 1923, but reprieved and became 'Alice Michelene', then in 1924 sold to Genoa and renamed 'Piero'. Ultimately became a fully powered motor ship of the same name]

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
