'Rio Loge' iron brigantine 241 tons [iron 2 mast brigantine, 250 gross, 241 net tons. ON68515, 122.3 x 24.7 x 12.8. Built 1869 (12) WC Miller and Sons, Garston, Lancs. for owners in Lisbon, became British at London in 1874 registered by CW Turner and R Wood at Lyttelton, New Zealand 1891 J Paterson, Dunedin; 1893 John Esquestrian Noakes, suger planter, Maryborough Queensland, registered Brisbane, 1894 registered Maryborough. June 1905 William Spence (who became master) and others. In charge of Captain Spence while making a coastal voyage in New Zealand believed to have foundered with all hands (12) off the Canterbury coast on January 15, 1909. At the time she was described as an iron hulled auxiliary brigantine]

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
