Summary

'Timaru' iron barque 354 tons [iron 3 mast barque, 407 gross, 354 net tons. ON113361, 131.7 x 30.0 x 14.4 Built 1887 Middlesburg, Holland and named 'Willem Christiaan' but sold to New Zealand by French owners who had named the vessel 'Don Diego'. Owners: April 1901 AH Turnbull (42) and Hugh Munro, registered Lyttelton. Last seen on August 24, 1902 off Kaikoura, on a passage from Lyttelton to Kaipara and is presumed to have foundered with the loss of all hands]

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
