Summary

'Velocity' wooden brigantine 140 tons [wooden 2 mast brigantine, ON35370, 139 tons. 78.0 x 20.8 x 13.8. Built 1827 at Shaldon at the mouth of the Teign river, in Devon. Owners: formerly in London; Nov. 1868 Robert Drysdale, registered Sydney; Dec. 1868 WL Crowther, registered Hobart; March 1875 Crowther sells 16/64ths to JW Robinson; May 1885 Robinson sells to IE Chapman. Crowther dies 1855 and his exec. James Mulchay. Register closed in 1889 with 'Broken up']

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
