Summary

The brig 'S.S. Royal Shepherd' on slip at Port Adelaide in the 1860's [iron single screw steamship, 269 gross, 184 net tons. ON31714, 148.1 x 19.8 x 10.5. Remeasured July 1857. Built 1853 (11) Blackwood and Gordon, Paisley. Oscillating steam engine 60hp by shipbuilder. Owners: Major and Co., registered Greenock. 1854 Launceston SN Co. registered Launceston. Dec. 1864 Joseph Darwent and partners, registered Port Adelaide; Oct. 1871 Andrew Tennant and partners. Dec. 1876 Spencer's Gulf SS Co. Ltd.' Dec. 1882 The Adelaide Steamship Co. Ltd.; Oct. 1885 J Mitchell, registered Sydney. Sunk in collision with ss 'Hesketh' off Sydney Heads July 14, 1890. See 'The Adelaide Line' by Parsons'.
