Summary

Yarra Street Pier in the 1880's with the brig 'Prospero', the barque 'Cutha' and the ships 'Loch Rannoch' and 'Thyatira' ['Prospero' = wooden 2 mast brigantine, 198 tons, ON45273, 108.5 x 22.4 x 12.6. Built 1862 Jersey. Owners: 1869 Joseph Stone, Port Adelaide: Nov. 1872 briefly owned in Melbourne, returns Port Adelaide 1873 to S Pridmore and others, until sold 1881 to J Graves, registered Hobart. 1893 CG Warburton, Sydney coal factor, registered Sydney, hulked at Sydney about 1902]

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.

The barque 'Cutha' may be misnamed; it is more likely to be the 'Cluta' of Melbourne.
