Summary

The iron ship 'Romanoff', 1226 tons, with skysails [iron ship (later barque) 1277 tons, ON70436, 222.1 x 36.2 x 22.2. Built 1874 (8) W Hood and Co., Aberdeen, owners: A Nichol and Co., registered Aberdeen. Sold to Norwegian owners and in their ownership was wrecked in 1917. Regular Melbourne trader].

General notes

One of Nicol's 'Wool' Clippers owned by Alexander Nicol and Co., Aberdeen. These Wool Clippers were engaged in the Australia-England wool trade.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
