Summary

The steel 4 masted barque 'Sir Robert Fernie', 2528 tons, in an unidentified harbour [steel 4 mast barque, 2528 gross, ON95538, 312.7 x 41.9 x 24.5. Built 1889 (8) Russell and Co., Port Glasgow: Owners: WJ Fernie, registered Liverpool 1907 renamed 'Elisabeth' by German owners and in 1909 was dismantled and used as a storeship in Callao. In 1917 re-rigged as 4 mast barque in 1917 and wrecked at Lobos Island in August 1924].

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Ships (IV) Masted Barques and Ships'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
