Summary

The iron ship 'River Falloch' (left), 1637 tons, and 'Nordsee' (right) in an unidentified harbour ['River Falloch' = iron ship, 1637 tons, ON89964 257.8 c 38.2 x 23.2. Built 1884 (10) Russell and Co., Port Glasgow. Owners: WD Denny, registered Glasgow c. 1890 A Weir and Co., registered Glasgow. Renamed 'Avenir' in 1909 under the Norwegian flag. Sold to Italy in 1917 with name unchanged and scrapped in 1922/3].

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Ships (I)'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
