Summary

The steel barque 'Invermay', 1436 tons, and the four masted steel barque 'Torrisdale', 2316 tons, anchored in an unidentified harbour [Invermay = steel barque 1471 tons. ON104514, 238.0 x 36.0 x 21.7. Built 1895 (10) Russell and Co. Port Glasgow, Owners G Milne and Co. Registered Aberdeen. Sold 1916 to Sir William Garthwaite. Captured by German submarine 25 April 1917, and sunk by bombs] ['Torrisdale' = steel 4 mast barque, 2316 tons, ON99828, 290.0 x 42.5 x 24.0. Built 1892 (7) D&W Henderson and Co., Glasgow. Owners: J&A Rozburgh, registered Glasgow; about 1910 sold to Ship Carnarvon Bay Ltd. (Roberts, Owens and Co.) Wrecked in 1912]. A researcher suggests that the vessel is the 'Invermark' not the 'Invermay'.

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Barques (III)'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
