Summary

The iron barque (3 mast) 'Carnarvon Castle', GRT 1200, in an unidentified port. ON63259 69.8 m length x 11.0 m beam x 6.7 m draught. Built 1867 by Barclay, Currie & Co. at Glasgow with the United Kingdom flag. 1889 it was sold to Sinclair & Ellwood and was operated as 'Sailing Ship Carnarvon Castle Co'. 1897 sold to Flugge, Johannsen & Libinus of Hamburg and renamed Nurnberg. 1905 sold to Sven, O Stray of Christiansand (norway). It was abandoned on Januray 10 1910 in the Atlantic Ocean at 35.30 N, 27.24 V, on the road Lobos de Tierra - Antwerp with guano.

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Barques (II)'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
