Summary

The iron barque 'Sussex', 1305 tons, in an unidentified port [iron ship (later barque) 1305 gross, ON54732, 230.0 x 35.2 x 22.0. Built 1866 (6) Barclay, Curle and Co. Glasgow. Owners: George Marshall and Sons, registered London. Mid 1880s - GG Macfarlane and Son, registered Glasgow and reduced to a barque. Later owned by R Barr of Glasgow then Hadfield, Cameron and Co. Drops from the records c.1910. Made one trip to Port Chalmers, NZ in 1874 carrying 496 passengers. Brief mention in the book called 'Last of the Windjammers'].

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Barques (II)'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
