Summary

The iron barque 'Lake Erie', 988 tons, [iron 3 mast barque, 988 gross tons. ON60397. 202.4 x 33.6 x 20.3. Built 1868 (12) Barclay, Curle and Co. Glasgow. Owners: The Canada Shipping Co. (of Montreal) registered Glasgow; 1874 registry transferred by the owners to Montreal. Dec. 1891 - AH Turnbull (42) and H Munro (22) registered Lyttelton. 1902 sold to foreigners (Italian subjects)]. A British researcher has suggested that as the name on the warehouse in the background is MESSRS. R. J. COOMBS & CO. and that they had "one of the finest and best-lighted warehouses" in Adelaide, the location is Port Adelaide.

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Barques (II)'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
