The iron barque 'Scottish Hero', 869 tons, in an unidentified port. [From information supplied: This ship made several voyages to Brisbane, Maryborough, Rocky, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns dropping passengers off along the way. It usually sailed out of Plymouth and London. The ship looks like it is up the Fitzroy River, Rockhampton, but it might also be the Mary River, Maryborough, Queensland. Also known as the 'Saturnus'] [iron barque, 911 tons, ON73670, 196.6 x 33.0 x 19.1. Built 1876 (5) W Doxford and Sons., Sunderland. Owners: McIllwraith, McEacharn and Co., registered London: c.1894 'Saturnus' sold German owners and renamed].

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
