General notes

From the volume titled 'British Owned Wooden Barques'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.

Historical information

Information supplied by a researcher: Sydney Morning Herald, Mon 9 Dec 1889, The Barque Lady Agnes, 357 tons register, has changed hands at L350. She belonged to Mr. John Friend, Salcombe, and was built at that port in 1867. Her dimensions are: length, 144 ft.; breadth, 26 ft., 3 in.; depth, 14 ft. 9 in. Another researcher from the Salcombe History Society supplied the information that the 'Lady Agnes' of Salcombe, on passage to New Zealand, arrived 8 December 1882.
