Summary

The steel ship 'Isle of Arran', 1918 tons, in an unidentified port [steel ship, 1918 tons. ON99844, 263.3 x 39.0 x 23.0. Built 1892 (9) Russell and Co. Port Glasgow. Owners: Isle of Arran Ship Co (W Jeffrey and Co.) registered Glasgow, later Andrew Weir and Co. became mangers of the Company. Captured Feb. 2, 1917 by a German submarine about 100 miles south of Old Head of Kinsale, and sunk by bombs].

One of the ships owned by The Bank Line / Andrew Weir and Co., Glasgow.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
