Summary

The four masted iron ship 'Falls of Afton', 1974 tons, moored in an unidentified port [iron 4 mast ship, 1975 tons, ON85918, 276.7 x 41.0 x 23.7. Built 1882 (2) Russell and Co. Greenock. Owners: Ship Falls of Afton Ltd. Wright and Breakenridge, registered Glasgow, later Wright, Graham and Co. c.1901 sold to Austria-Hungary and renamed 'Francesco Guiseppe I' registered at Lussngrande c.1910 sold to Norwegian owners and reverts to original name. No further detail traced].

One of the ships owned by The Falls Line / Wright, Graham and Co., Glasgow.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
