Summary

The wooden barques 'Yarrow' (1), 286 tons, 'Arcturus' (2), 203 tons, and 'Astrea' (3), 350 tons, in an unidentified port. The 'Yarrow' was lost after running aground in Port Phillip Bay 23 August 1870. The 'Arcturus' was taken out of register in 1873. The 'Astrea' was a total loss at Gallipoli in 1867 ['Yarrow' = wooden 3 mast barque, 286 tons, ON50396, 119.0 x 26.4 x 14.9. Built 1864 (11) May, Shoreham. Owners: RH Penney, registered Shoreham. Lost in the Bay of Biscay in 1870].

One of the ships owned by R.H. Penney and Sons, Shoreham.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'.
