Summary

The iron barque (ex ship) 'Loch Ness', 1258 tons, docked in an unidentified port [iron ship, later barque, 1258 tons. ON60461. 225.5 x 35.6 x 21.6. Built 1869 (9) Barclay, Curle and Co., Glasgow. Owners: John Pearson and Kidston, registered Glasgow. c.1875 Glasgow Shipping Co. (Aitken and Lilburn, managers) registered Glasgow. 1908 sold to Stevedoring and Shipping Co. Ltd., registered Port Adelaide and converted into a hulk for use in coaling steamships. Hull was sunk off Rottnest Island August 18, 1926 when used in firing practice by HMAS Melbourne].

One of the ships owned by The 'Loch' Line / Aitken, Lilburn and Co., Glasgow.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
