Summary

The iron ship 'Loch Vennachar', 1557 tons, in an unidentified port [iron ship, 1557 tons, ON71748, 250.1 x 38.3 x 22.4. Built 1875 (8) J&G Thomson, Glasgow. Owners: Glasgow Shipping Co. (Aitken, Lilburn and Co., managers) registered Glasgow. Wrecked Kangaroo Island in September 1905. The remains of her hull have been examined by skindivers (1977) all hands were lost. She was not seen again after speaking to SS 'Yongala' Sept. 6, 1905, about 150 miles from Kangaroo Island].

One of the ships owned by The 'Loch' Line / Aitken, Lilburn and Co., Glasgow.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
