Summary

The four masted steel barque 'Dumfriesshire', 2565 tons, anchored in an unidentified harbour [steel 4 mast barque 2565 tons. ON97594, 313.6 x 42.1 x 24.4. Built 1890 (1) Russell and Co. Port Glasgow. Owners Thomas Law and Co. registered Glasgow. Torpedoed by a German submarine, without warning, June 28 1915 when about 25 miles SW from the Smalls].

One of the ships owned by The Shire Line / Thomas Law and Co., Glasgow.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'.
