The iron ship 'Ardencraig', 2153 tons, at Port Adelaide after colliding with, and sinking the 'Norma'. The ketch 'Percy' is alongside. [iron ship, 2153 tons. ON93332, 277.7 x 40.0 x 24.9. Built 1886 (8) Russell and Co. Greenock. Owners: Edmiston and Mitchells, registered Glasgow: c 1896/7 Crawford and Rowat registered Glasgow. Wrecked when homeward from Australia with grain, in January 1911 on Crim Rocks, Scilly Isles. Earlier had achieved notoriety by running into and sinking 'Norma' at the Semaphore, South Australia, April 21, 1907.] [Percy along side 'Ardencraig' = wooden 2 mast ketch, 35 tons. ON57572. 63.0 x 18.0 x 5.3. Built 1876 Shipwrights Point, Tas. Lengthened 1891 - 78.1 x 18.0 x 5.2. 39 tons. Owners: Nov. 1876 John Styles, registered Port Adelaide: Sept. 1882 Port Wakefield Shipping Co. Ltd; 1895 A Le Messurier: C McKay and J Yeo. By 1919 R Fricker and WJ Spells: 1921 M & JB Spells: 1922 R&FB Fricker and R Deex. Broken up in 1936].

One of the ships owned by Edmiston and Mitchells, Glasgow.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'.
