General notes

One of the ships owned by G. Windram and Co., Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.

Historical information

1910: Sold to A/S Scottish Glens (Chr. Nielsen & Co), Larvik. 1921: Sold to Sigvart Rasmussen in Haugesund in March. 1922: Converted to motor vessel by Vulcan Werke A/G, Stettin, renamed Haugar and put into freight service. 1926: Transferred to Sigvart Rasmussen & Sønn A/S, Haugesund. 1928: Sold to Hvalfangerselskapet Ishavet A/S (Leif Bryde), Sandefjord, in March, and converted to factory ship at A/S Hølens Verksted, Larvik. Used for whaling in the Arctic Ocean. 1931: Laid up for the 1931/32 season. Sold to Lars Klaveness in December. 1932: Sold to Hvalfangerselskapet Haugar A/S (Andreas Ingebrigtsen & Hans Halvorsen, Aukra/Oslo), Oslo. Still used for whaling in the Arctic. 1935: Begins whaling on the grounds off Congo. 1938: Hvalfangerselskapet Haugar left Hvalfangerforeningen (International Association of Whaling Companies) on 20 October, as the company entered other areas of operation. Haugar was converted to a tanker. 1939: Sold to Anders Jahre, Sandefjord, in May. In December transferred to the company Skibs-A/S Haugar (Anders Jahre), Sandefjord. 1940: Sold to Leonardo Arrivabene Soc. Anon. (Leo Salom), Venice, and renamed Arca. 1942: Torpedoed and sunk by British submarine HMS Taku 26 October, 9 nautical miles south of Chios in the Aegean Sea.
