Summary

The four masted steel barque 'Lord Rosebery', 2833 tons, at anchor [steel 4 mast ship, 2833 tons. ON96579. 304.1 x 46.0 x 25.0. Built 1889 (5) Whitehaven Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. Whitehaven Ltd Rosebery Ltd. (J Herron and Co.) registered Liverpool. Sold to Germany in 1910 and renamed 'Reinbek'. After WW1 allocated to the French who sold her to Robert Dollar and Co. and she was registered at San Francisco] ['Windermere' was built for Fisher and Sprott in 1889. NB Be careful two ships of this name about the same era].

One of the ships owned by J. Herron and Co., Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
