Summary

The iron barque 'Castlehead', 825 tons, anchored in an unidentified port. [iron ship, 850 tons, ON63201, 186.0 x 32.2 x 19.4. Built 1869 (8) R&J Evans, Liverpool. Owners Ismay and Co. (White Star Line) registered Liverpool, 1886 North Western Shipping Co. (White Star Line) Sold French 1894 and went missing on a voyage from San Francisco to Liverpool, Dec. 1896. Renamed President Thiers. Owners J&H Tandonnet, Bordeaux, missing. Left San Francisco for Liverpool 22/12/1898, repeat 1898. Ref. see White Star, Anderson, 1964, Pub. T. Stephenson and Sons.]

One of the ships owned by the Liverpool White Star Line / Ismay, Imrie and Co., Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
