Summary

The iron ship 'Parthenope', 1646 tons, in dry dock [iron ship, 1646 tons, ON70948. 250.6 x 39.9 x 23.6. Built 1875 (4) R&J Evans and Co., Liverpool. Owners: J Heap and Sons, registered Liverpool. 1882 Australasian Shipping Co. Ltd. (Gracie, Beazley and Co.) rergistered Liverpool. Sold c.1898 to Italian owners and renamed 'Pellegrina O' and as such was posted missing on a voyage from Newcastle, NSW to Antofagasta. She had sailed July 31, 1907].

One of the ships owned by Joseph Heap and Sons, Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
