Summary

The iron barque 'Weathersfield', 1101 tons, in an unidentified port [iron ship, 1051 tons, later barque 1101 tons. ON51472. 209.0 x 34.7 x 21.3. Built 1865 (2) R Duncan and Co. Port Glasgow. Owners: William Cuthbertson, registered Liverpool; 1877 Greenshields, Cowie and Co. Wrecked at or near Ohau April 8, 1888 but recovered and repaired ; 1893 HG McCarthy and Partners, registered Wellington, NZ. 1908 converted into a hulk by Union SS Co. of New Zealand , and stationed at Suva. Register cloed in 1914, and vessel scuttled off Suva Feb. 18, 1928. See 'Union Fleet' by Farquahar].

One of the ships owned by Greenshields, Cowie and Co., Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
