Summary

The steel barque 'Almora', 1856 tons, at anchor. [steel barque, 1856t. ON102374, 257.8 x 39.2 x 22.9. Built 1893 (7) W. Hamilton & Co. Port Glasgow. Owners: Almora Ship Co. Ltd. (W&J Crawford) reg. Greenock. c. 1911 sold to Norwegians without change of name. Condemned and broken up c.1921. While built for Crawford was better known in the ownership of Corsar's 'Flying Horse' Line BUT Corsar retained the ship under the ownership of Almora Ship Co. Ltd. and only managed it - many writers claim the vessel was built for Corsar, due to this.]

One of the ships owned by W. and J. Crawford, Greenock.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
