Summary

The wooden ship 'Earl Dalhousie', 1047 tons, moored at Gravesend, U.K. [wooden barque. 1047 tons. ON29463. 191.5 x 34.8 x 22.0. Built 1862 (9) A Stephen and Sons. Dundee. Owners A Stephen and Sons, registered Dundee. c.1882 sold to Bremen and renamed Meta Seeger. Noted as being stranded in 1887]. According to a researcher the captain of this ship was Richard H Cary - who came from the fishing village of Mousehole in Cornwall England. He was one of five brothers - all were ships captains who spent time in Australian waters. Richard was the only one of the brothers who did not die at sea.

One of the ships owned by Alexander Stephen and Sons, Dundee.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
