Summary

The iron barque 'Stracathro', 1215 tons, in an unidentified port [iron barque, 1215 tons, ON75187, 230.6 x 35.0 x 21.1. Built 1876 (8) Gourlay Bros. Dundee. Owners: Dundee Clipper Line Ltd. (D Bruce and Co. managers) registered Dundee. Sold French and renamed 'Marguerite Therese' and registered at Dieppe. Was towed into Durban dismasted 18 Sept., 1897 surveyed, condemned and sold as a hulk in November 1897 and towed to Delagoa Bay].

One of the ships owned by D. Bruce and Co., Dundee.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
