James Murdoch Archer Durrant

James Murdoch Archer Durrant

Portrait of James Murdoch Archer Durrant and not William George Haylock Jnr as previously described. A researcher has provided strong evidence that this is a portrait of James Durrant (born 1885-1963), who joined the 1st Battalion Adelaide Rifles as a 14 year old bugler, serving with them from 1899-1903. George Haylock and James Durrant probably served together up to the rank of Seargeant in th Australian Field Artillery (AFA). They both attended the Goodwood Public School (2 years apart) where they are both named on the school honor board. They both trained as teachers and joined the AMF and AIF, serving in World War I and World War II, and botht their fathers served in the S.A. Militia. It is possible that the families may have swapped photographs at some point.
