Historical information

During the period 1922-23, 'Captain J. Miens' was Captain of 'P.S. Avoca' and towed the 'Cowirra' barge, then the largest barge on the River Murray, in Waikerie Reach, according to the caption note of PRG 1258/1/182. Another caption notes that a Mr. C. Mienes opened the 'Mannum Recorder'.
