Historical information

(Godson number 296A/1). According to a researcher, Tug Hebe was owned by the Colonial Sugar Refining company and it was worked on the Clarence River New South Wales (NSW), towing cane barges not to Mackay but rather to the Harwood sugar mill. Hebe was converted from steam to diesel power in about 1952. Her last cane season was 1973-1974. The last captain in command of Hebe on the Clarence River was Kevin Shortt of Maclean NSW. She was sold to Dick Bromhead (likely to be the bearded man in the image) who sailed her to the Murray River, including Goolwa, in 1975. Hebe is now a paddle vessel currently based at Waikerie.
