General notes

In 1923 at Lock 3 on a swollen river, with only the navigable pass open, PS Renmark (3rd in line) approaches the navigation pass at Lock 3, towing the heavily laden Crowie barge, looks as though she could not stem the current. The river is in flood, the steamer can not make headway agaist the current at the pass. PS Canally is brought in and a towline passed to the Renmark. The two steamers could not make headway against the major current through the navigation pass. PS Success, which had been tied at the coffer dam wall was brought in and a towline attached to PS Canally. When PS Success was added and with the three paddle steamers combined power, they were able to make it up through the navigable pass. The pumping barge Argo, a derrick barge and some bin barges are moored at the opposite bank. [Information provided by Frank Tucker].
