The word 'Fettler' developed from a misinterpretation of the spelling of 'settlers', who were employed to maintain outback railway tracks.

Historical information

Photograph taken by Charles Mountford whilst acting as secretary to the 1935 'Commonwealth Board of Enquiry into the alleged ill-treatment of Aborigines near Ayers Rock'.
