Summary

Folded card bearing the inscription 'Dinner given in honour of Sir William Sowden by Mr. Evan Kyffin Thomas and Mr. Geoffrey Kyffin Thomas on his retirement from the proprietary and editorship of "The Register"'. Multiple signatures cover both sides. The inner section contains a menu, and toasts. Dinner held at the South Australian Hotel on Saturday, October 7, 1922.

Historical information

Sir William Sowden joined 'The South Australian Register' in 1881, and was promoted to chief leader-writer and associate editor in 1892, acting editor in 1897, and finally editor from 1899 to 1922, after which he retired and took up residence in Victor Harbor. He was also President of the Public Library, Museum, and Art Gallery of South Australia from 1908-1926; President of the Institutes Association of South Australia from 1926-1937; President of the Australian Library Association from 1928-1932.
