Historical information

Norman Claxton, born 2 November 1877, son of Lieutenant-Colonel William Denton Claxton and his second wife Hannah (formerly Moyle, nee Parr), was a South Australian sportsman and businessman, and a prominent figure in cricket, Australian rules football, baseball and cycling, as a player and later an administrator. He represented South Australia in cricket, was part of the North Adelaide Football Club and the teams that won the South Australian National Football League in 1900 and 1902, was founding president of the South Australian Baseball League frrom 1913 to 1929, donated the Claxton Shield trophy for the champion baseball team in Australia, and was inducted into the Baseball Australia Hall of Fame in 2005, and he joined the North Adelaide Cycling Club in 1902 and captained it from 1917 until his death in 1951.
