Daguerreotype studio portrait thought to be of Mary Vale Bishop (1852-1889) and her younger brother John Frederick Bishop (b. 1859), the eldest daughter and youngest son of Captain John Bishop (1803-1865) and his wife Esther Elizabeth Bishop (1822-1881). Mary is wearing a dress buttoned down at centre front with a white lace collar, and her hair is centrally parted, covering her ears, with ringlets at the back. John is wearing a belted tunic with a wide bow tied around his neck.
