Summary

Late 19th Century unknown child's hand-coloured sketchbook detailing his or her lesiure activities over 13 double-sided pages, 26 x 36.3 cm. The illustrations are drawn in pencil and coloured with watercolour paints. Many of the pages are divided into four sections and show comic-strip like illustrations of various leisure activities including archery, swimming, tennis, playing make-belive games including drawings of fairies and goblins, riding in horse-drawn carts, picnics, playing at the beach and in rowing boats, and tea parties. There are also some full-page watercolour paintings of landscapes showing houses, the ocean and boats, and some including family members. One of the full-page paintings features male family members wearing British military uniform of the late 19th century, and another full-page painting depicts a steam train travelling over a bridge with 'London' written on the side of the engine. The figures are labelled by name and include: Louie, Rubie, Mabel, Mamma, Fred, Uncle Henry, Minnie, Bessie, Mary, Frank, Emily, Eva, Bluebell, Pansy, Harry, Uncle Willie, Tottie, Edith, Daisy, Papa, Bob, Charlie, Jodfrey, Bertie, Aunt Aggie, Madeline, Aunt Mary, Aunt Tottie, Sophie, and Alice.
