Historical information

Heinrich Franz Rudolph Buring was born in Berlin, arrived in SA in August 1849 on the 'Princess Louise' from Hamburg and became a well-known tobacconist in Adelaide. His younger brother Theodor Gustav Hermann Büring (1846-1919) was the father of the artist of this item. Adolph Wilhelm Rudolph (Rudi) Büring became secretary and director of his father's business in 1910 and its managing director from 1934-1950. He was an accomplished artist, receiving commissions to execute illuminated address for dignitaries of his day.
