Historical information

Jefferson Hirst Walker was born at Hawthorn, Victoria, on 16 July 1901. He enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy on 31 December 1913, rising to the rank of Commander. He was in command of HMAS Parramatta when the vessel was torpedoed and sunk whilst ferrying supplies to Australian troops at Tobruk on 28 November 1941. Commander Walker was amongst the 146 men lost.
