The 'Hertford' one of 40 ships owned by the New Zealand Shipping Co. London. Some of the ships were named after English counties and others after New Zealand rivers and mountains. Colin Hill 'joined the compay in 1953 and left in 1961. Served as 4th to chief officer. Fast ships, good food.'
