Historical information

Saturday 6th May 2001 saw the 100th anniversary of the first game played on Norwood Oval (commonly referred to as The Parade) and also the centenary of the first game played by the Sturt Football Club. As part of the celebrations a minor round SANFL game was played between the two clubs in which both clubs wore replica jumpers. In front of a crowd of 13,745 at the Parade, Norwood won 12.10(82) to Sturt's 9.13(67). Coincidentally, Norwood won the 1st game on the oval beating Sturt 10.11(71) to Sturt 5.8(38) on 4 May 1901. The jumper was worn by Danny 'Bug' Morton in the centenary game. Morton announced his retirement from league football on 8 December 2002 having played 36 games for Norwood, 45 games for North Adelaide, 30 games for Fitzroy and 13 for Port Adelaide in the AFL. Danny Morton was listed in 'the Advertiser' 7 May 2001 as on of the best on ground for the centenary game, scoring 2 goals.
