Historical information

William Robert Knox, born 21 July 1861, son of John Knox and Eliza Ann Nairne Morton, displayed remarkable musical talent as teenager and was taught by Paolo Giorza. At age 18 William made his public debut as pianist and organist at Flinders Street Presbyterian Church, and by the early 1880s he was one of Adelaide's most prolific composers. William wrote piano music and songs, and was the director of Adelaide College of Music. In 1895 he was editor of the 'South Australia Musical Journal' and three years later issued 'The Australian Pianoforte Tutor'.
