Historical information

John Alexander (Jack) McBean was born 15 February 1880, and his brother William Peter on 22 January 1882, sons of Alexander Aeneas McBean and Mary Ann Essery of Adelaide. Jack enlisted in the 4th Imperial Bushmen's Contingent and went to the Boer War in April 1900. He re-enlisted for service in 1902 in the 2nd Commonwealth Horse and stayed in Africa after the war. 'Will' McBean enlisted in the Australian Commonwealth Horse and went to South Africa in 1902. Jack died in 1966 at Bulawayo, Rhodesia and William died at Norwood, SA in 1950.
