Summary

Journal kept during the voyage to South Australia on the 'Templar', 21 July - 13 November 1845. At the end of the journal is a list of expenses following the family's arrival (D 6070/1). There is also a separate list of the contents of 14 boxes and trunks of clothing, household requisites and tools needed for the voyage and life in the colony (D 6070/2). A typescript of the diary is also included. [Original withdrawn until conservation completed.]

Early Experiences in Australasia Collection previously known as Alexander Street Press Collection.

Historical information

Charles Masters born England ca.1809, married Martha Williams. With their five children they came to South Australia in 1845 on the 'Templar', the eldest son Charles Frederick, 8, died shortly after arrival; six more children were born in South Australia. Charles died at Wroxton Grange, Angaston on 4 June 1866 aged 57.
