General Laboratory.
General Laboratory. Testing acid pickly solutions. Equipment includes Vickers and Brinell hardness testing machines, tensometer, salt spray cabinet etc.
Mechanized Foundry.
Mechanized Foundry. View shows continuous puroing of boxes on mould conveyor from ladles suspended from monorails. Capacity is up to 40 tons per day, and largest box on conveyor is 39 x 29 inches. A sand rammer provides for artiles too large for mould conveyor.
Wood working department.
Wood Working Department. The plant includes all the normal woodowrking machinery - saws, planers, moulding machines, mortice machines & sand paper wheels etc. The main output is wooden bedsteads.
Porcelain Enamelling Department.
Porcelain Enamelling Department. Oil fired box furnace, also used for annealing.
Press Section.
Press Section. Pickling wash boiler stampings in automatic spray pickling machine.
Bar Iron Section.
Bar Iron Section. Pels cropping machine and punch and form presses. Capacity up to 1/2 inch plate; hot or cold working.
Sheet Metal Section - 12 Ft Bender.
Sheet Metal Section - 12 Foot Bender. An inspector is checking machine set up to bend side panels for electric cookers. Capacity bend up to 12'-0" in 10 gauge mild steel or 8'-0" in 3/16" mild steel. .
Heavy Drawing Presses.
Heavey Drawing Presses. Press at right draws washing machine tubs, and other large shells.
No.1 Lithography Machine.
No.1 Lithography Machine with combination drying oven for printing tinplate, small drum sheets etc.
Automatic Can Making machinery.
Automatic can making machinery - used for jam tin and condensed milk cans.
Porcelain Enamelling Department.
Porcelain Enamelling Department. Continuous electric furnace 550 K.W. enamelling washing machine tubs.
Tool and Die shop.
Tool & Die Shop. Cincinnati Vertical Milling machine with hydraulically operated head which follows a tracer on a pattern. We make most of our sheet metal working tools.
Electro plating.
Electro plating. Plating is regularly performed with nickel, chromium, brass, zinc and cadmium and aluminium is anodised and dyed. Metal spraying equipment is also available.
Paint section.
Paint section. Small continuous drier for painting water heater outside bodies.
Structural steel work.
Structural steel work. Main bay of mechanized foundry building made and erected by A. Simpson & Son Limited. The entire factory of Rheem Simpson Limited - S.A. Division of Rheem (Aust.) Pty. Ltd. Was made an erected by A. Simpson & Son Limited.
Brass Finishing Shop.
Brass Finishing Shop. This shop machines short runs of brass castings for electric sink water heaters and similar work where full automatic lathes would not be warranted.
Wire Mattress Weaving Machines.
Wire Mattress Weaving Machines. Wire is woven to suit customers requirements and is extensively used in the upholstering of motor car bodies as well as for beds.
Foundry Laboratory.
Foundry Laboratory. Sand testing equipment testing permeability of sand with dietert testing apparatus. Analysis of cast iron is carried out in general laboratory.
Jig Welding Section.
Jig Welding Section using E.M.F. gimbol welders. A turning jig used for welding frames for electric cookers.
Seam Welding Conveyor.
Seam Welding Conveyor. 10 Gallon Bottle neck milk cans being seam welded. Boxes for ammunition and similar work are also assembled on this conveyor.

Bar Iron Section - cutting off stock. These machines are also used for cutting round bar for U-Bolts 1/2, 5/8, and 3/4 diameter. Pole hardware for electric supply authorities, steel window frames, constructional work etc.
