General notes

Part of a collection of photographs taken by Eric Arthur, a Mount Gambier photographer.

Historical information

Born February of 1921 at Mount Gambier, Eric resided at Penola, Wattle Range, South Australia, occupation listed as tinsmith. Enlisted 25 March 1941 at Wayville, South Australia and served in the 2nd/3rd Machine Gun Battalion. Eric died of illness (POW of Japan), Thailand, 24 August 1943, aged 22 years, and was buried in the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery. He is remembered on the Adelaide WWII Wall of Remembrance, the Australian War Memorial, and the Roll of Honour, Naracoorte, Penola Memorial - WW1/WW2/Vietnam.
