Historical information

With the outbreak of war in 1939 manufacturing production in Australia was swung towards wartime production. On June 16th 1939 the Australian Parliament mobilized all the country's resources and manpower, materials and productive capacity. GMH placed all plants, personnel and facilities at the disposal of the Australian Government. GMH produced aeroplanes, trucks, ambulances, military vehicles, ammunition, weaponry, tents, assorted canvas goods, boats and associated materials.

Information from a researcher: 'GM-H only completed two of this particular model [No9 Field Artillery Tractor (Aust), see image 50c], although they did build many bodies which were sold after the end of the war. Several have been restored using Chevrolet C15A chassis. There was also a similar body on the same chassis but without the step in the roof known as the No8 Field Artillery Tractor (Aust).'
