Summary

Black and white photograph of Birks premises on the South West corner of Rundle Street and Gawler Place, Town Acre 81. During the 1870s, the building was then occupied by Holden & Birks, saddlers. The parapet of this building featured ornate mouldings in the 1870s.

Historical information

Holden & Birks was established in 1872 following the formation of J.A. Holden & Co. in 1856. However in 1875 the partnership was dissolved, and J.A. Holden & Co., the forerunner to the manufacturer of Australia's famous Holden motor cars, was re-established once again.
